Oscar Worthy Duplicity is Key

I've been thinking about the title of my very ambitious 'Oscar Worthy' posts. In my book, we're all worthy. If beauty and makeup make your world a prettier place, that's cool. Some of us may be Oscar royalty, others may not. The universal evening brings us closer together, united in celebration of magic created on the big screen. Go ahead, dream. Dare to dream, big and bold. You are the celebrity in your story.

I'm a lucky, lucky girl. Beauty brands have been very good to the blog, and my Oscar Worthy looks endeavor. Since diversity is the spice of life, I created two slightly different eye variations, changing only the eyelid base variable. I wanted to create a smokey eye, in smoldering black. When I received Hard Candy's sparkly, funky, gorge Spring products, I had to use Shadow Dancers, Night & Day. Liquid to powder eyes. A Celestial turquoise, luminizing pearl, duo cream applied to the lid, dries in lightning speed. byTerry Color-Fix Cream Eye Shadow, Silver Granite, true silver glow glides on smooth, and feels natural. Hard Candy Meteor-eyes Black Hole baked, high pigment swirls of silver and black, creates an edgy, bold look. For added intensity, wet the shadow. Mac Pro Longwear Eyeliner in Black Ice inside the upper and lower lash line makes a statement. Mac Lash #20, a touch of density. Nars Stilo Liquid Liner, so thin & precise, one stroke application is all you need. I applied Armani Maestro Foundation post shadow application, avoiding smokey - eye spillage. Shu Uemura Sunlight Peach Dome Blush, creates peachy keen cheeks. A little goes a long way, blends well with fingertips, a sponge or foundation brush. Hard Candy Lip Def, Madison Ave. 3D pearl, soft copper tone screams Oscar, I am worthy.

The long lasting matte finish delivers, camera ready complexion. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil  JUMBO size crayon, glides on smooth, precise and dries fast. Red Square, a vibrant red with bright orange base makes a statement, refreshing burst of color. If you have your heart set on true red, try Nars Red Dragon, vibrant cherry. Most of us will never get the chance to attend the Oscars, NYC Fashion Week, the Grammys, much less be nominated, have our makeup and hair done by the Pros. Since I'm not in Hollywood painting faces this season, I thought why not recreate some 'Oscar Worthy' red carpet looks, for fun. Exclusively, for yours truly. There will be no crazy, weird, difficult makeup looks, only pretty eyes, lips and cheeks. Looks you can wear whenever the mood strikes. Maybe at your own, fabulous Oscar viewing party, sipping cocktails from the couch. Stayed tuned for more Oscar worthy looks...

Green Envy.

Wearing bold color looks cool when done right. Keep the rest of the face bare, and flawless. This look takes literally five minutes. I left the skin radiant and hydrated, applying Armani's Crema Nera Regenerating Cream and byTerry Concealer Touche-Expert Advanced to the under eyes and lid. (Remember to hit the inner & upper eye corners to create light.) Philosophy's Mineral Dual bronzer-blush, swept over the cheekbones, nose and eye crease. Mac Cosmetic's Fluid Line in Dark Envy, a stunning, emerald shade of green sparkle. Applies creamy and smooth, dries fast and stays put. I used a fine tip synthetic brush for precise application. A swipe of byTerry's powder, and you're ready to paint the town.

White shadow can be difficult, but provides a dramatic effect when paired with black. Makeup Forever Aqua Cream in white provides a shimmering, photo ready base. I applied Stila's Liquid Liner close to the lash line and in between the lashes. Armani Black Eyeliner Pencil #4 rimmed inside the eye, creates a dramatic black & white contrast. Every girl should wear Shu Uemura's Dazzling Black Diamond lashes, look and feel like a million bucks. Mac Cosmetic's Pigment in Soft Pearl White applied with the finger into the brow bone creates an ethereal, goddess effect. Nars The Multiple cream stick in Orgasm highlights the cheek a lovely shade of peachy pink. Dab Mac's Soft Pearl White Pigment on top of Nars Orgasm on high cheeks for  megawatt shimmer. Mac's Viva Glam Gaga in chalky pink compliments the blush, balancing the eye. The modern take on vintage Hollywood glam.

Wild At Heart

He wasn't kidding. His love of pop culture, his quirky, off the beaten path life, inspires us all. 
He admitted to being "deeply superficial." Gotta love the honesty.
He was a risk taker, the odd man out, an artist that would be revered, copied and adored for decades.
This young girl, defiant & naive, skipped high school graduation, in search of Fame & Ave. B.
I couldn't wait to experience the pulse, the electricity, the creativity, art on every corner. New York will always be the place that set me free. Reminiscent of three am nights at Limelight, the edgy, dark club, inside a gothic church, where you could be an individual. Women & men, in full makeup, danced, wild, naked and free. An ingenue, up on a box, dressed in fish nets, chains, with crazy golden locks belted out tunes until the sun came up. Madonna, before she was Madonna, was smack dab in the eye of the storm. I had arrived. The city was tingling, raw and bursting with talent. It was infectious.
Andy Warhol paved the way, for all us country girls & boys, with big dreams.
Nars, the master of colour followed suit. I love Nars Cosmetics, beautiful, bold color, creativity at its finest. Nars' Andy Warhol line, is sheer brilliance. 15 minutes comes back around. Nars, take a bow.

Mermaid Dreams

The holidays are over, but the parties are in full swing. Sundance, Award Season, Fashion week, all the hustle and bustle of the beauty scene. For makeup and hair peeps, this is a very busy bee season. When Nars sent me the new eyeshadow palette, Melusine I did a little jig. I love a smokey purple eye, sometimes even more than all black. It looks good on everyone, from fair skinned blonds to hot reds, to the olive tone brunettes, adding a hint of mermaid quality. The bright purple shade is matte, and packs the right amount of punch. It blends and builds effortlessly. I love to apply it to the crease, on a bare eye with a hint of the pale, silver lilac shimmer added to the center of the lid. A touch of the silver lilac dusted to the inner corners, opens the eyes instantly. It's a nice compliment to the sultry purple.

Paired with the limited edition, sheer lipstick, Little Darling, it's one of my favorite looks. The sheer lip is a true nude, with a beige undertone that's sexy and alluring. Celebrity artist Fabiola used Little Darling on Lea Michele's lips at the Billboard awards. Lucky Like That

I learned about beauty and makeup at a very naive, young age. At 19, I boldly went off to Milan and Paris, to work as a model in the fashion industry. I was lucky enough to have my face painted by the masters. Pat McGrath, Fulvia Farofli and Diego della Palma, to name a few. And then there were the gentile artists of photography, Giovanni Gastel,  Ferri Fabrizio, Toni Thorimbert, and Aldo Fallai were among the favorites. I sat up straight and paid attention to detail. I said please and thank you, and just like that 17 years were gone in a flash. I never picked makeup as a career, it picked me. When Fulvia took one Shu Uemura cool, berry tone lipstick, and used it on my eyes and cheek, I was hooked. It looked sexy, and exotic and deliciously wet. When I started assisting the divine Stephane Marais and watched him create three dimensional eyes with one pencil, I was amazed. I started developing my own style.
